BIOGRAPHY Born in Vienna, Kurt Rydl studied at the Hochschule für Musik there and at the Moscow Conservatorium. He has been a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera since 1977 and in 1986 was awarded the honorary title of Austrian Kammersänger. Kurt Rydl’s repertoire encompasses over eighty roles in Italian, French, Russian and German and which he has performed at all of the principal opera houses of the world, including London, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Salzburg. The roles he has performed at the Bavarian State Opera include Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Rocco in Fidelio, Ochs auf Lerchenau in Der Rosenkavalier, Pogner in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Padre Guardino in La Forza del Destino, Colline in La Bohème, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Ramfis in Aida, Kecal in Prodaná Nevsta (The Bartered Bride), Heinrich in Lohengrin and Fafner, Hagen and Hunding in Der Ring des Nibelungen.
