BIOGRAPHY The Austrian singer began his career very early. Already in 1980, when he was 20 years old, and when he still was studying singing of the Conservatory of Vienna, he was employed at the National Theatre of Salzburg/Austria. During this period, Nikolaus Harnoncourt discovered the young, talented singer. Numerous record-, film- and broadcasting-productions give a proof of the intensive cooperation during two decades. Today, Scharinger is invited to sing at all reputed operas and music festivals. Thanks to his interpretation of the roles of Papageno, Figaro, Guglielmo, and Leporello he has become a highly demanded singer in operas of Mozart. In 1995, the Austrian minister of Education, Culture and Arts conferred him the lnterpretation-of-Mozart-Award. Thanks to the fact that he grew up in a monastic school and song in a boy's choir, Anton Scharinger developed a great sympathy for oratorios and sacred music. Until today, that sympathy is unbroken.
