Born and musically educated in Southern Poland, Piotr Beczala was first engaged by the Linz Landestheater before switching to the Zurich Opera which he remained closely associated to while already making an intense international career. With numerous most successful appearances at leading musical venues he has established himself to be one of the most outstanding lyric tenors of our time. He performs frequently with London's Royal Covent Garden Opera, the San Francisco Opera, in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt and in Munich. In 2006 he made his debut with Milan's Teatro alla Scala and with the New York Metropolitan Opera. He also appeared at the opera houses in Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Vienna, Geneva, Bologna and Athens as well as with the festivals in Salzburg, Graz, Lucerne and Montpellier. Piotr Beczala's stage repertoire consists mostly of lyric tenor roles such as Alfredo ("La Traviata"), Duca di Mantova ("Rigoletto"), Rodolfo ("La Bohème"), "Werther", "Faust", Lensky ("Jevgeny Onegin"), Vaudémont ("Iolanta"), Jenik ("The Bartered Bride"), Pasterz ("King Roger"), Tamino ("The Magic Flute"), Belmonte ("The Abduction from the Seraglio"), Don Ottavio ("Don Giovanni"), Orombello ("Beatrice di Tenda"), Italian Singer ("Der Rosenkavalier") and Camille de Rosillon ("The Merry Widow"). Concert engagements made him appear at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Munich Philharmonic Hall, the Munich Herkulessaal, the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Zurich Tonhalle, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Moscow Tchaikovsky-Conservatory and at the Severance Hall in Cleveland. His wide concert repertoire ranges from Mozart's, Cherubini's and Schubert's sacred music, Haydn's oratorios, Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis", Schumann's "Paradies und die Peri", Rossini's "Stabat Mater" and "Petite Messe Solennelle", Berlioz’s "Roméo et Juliette" and "Requiem", Bruckner's "Te Deum", Dvorák's "Stabat Mater" and "Requiem" and Brahms's "Rinaldo" to Verdi's "Messa da Requiem" as well as Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde" and "Das klagende Lied". Numerous CD- and DVD-releases demonstrate the artist's status and career. Piotr Beczala has sung the role of Alfredo in Verdi's "La Traviata" within his first engagement in Linz, however later also in Athens, Zurich, Frankfurt and Bilbao, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as when making his debut with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich which the present live-recording was taken from.
