The Heinrich-Schütz-Ensemble Vornbach was founded by Martin Steidler in the lower Bavarian town of Vornbach upon Inn, near Passau in 1993. Today the repertoire of the choir encompasses all the important a cappella and choral symphonic works from the the Renaissance to the present day. Depending on what project is at hand, the members of the choir, many of whom have previous musical training, come together in groups of varying size to augment a basic core of around thirty singers, both male and female.

Concentration on authentic renditions, and a professional standard of work are what make this choir much sought after for musical cooperation, even on an international level. This is exemplified by their cooperation with the Munich Radio Orchestra, the "L’arpa festante" and "Orfeo" baroque orchestras, or the Haydn-Orchestra from Bolzano and Trento. Regular guest appearances at inter alia the "European Weeks" festival in Passau or the Tyrollean festival in Erl, as well as numerous concert tours have so far taken the ensemble to Eastern, Southern and Northern Europe as well as South America.

The Heinrich-Schütz-Ensemble has won many awards, among others the first prizes at international choir festivals in Spittal upon Drau, in Austria (2007) and Cork, Ireland (2010), the Europäisches Konzerthaus Trust in Passau, and the Cultural Sponsorship Award of the District of Passau. In 2008 the ensemble received the Culture Prize of the E.ON-Bayern energy company.
