Detlef Roth was born in Germany and as a singer in demand internationally, may be heard regularly in the role of "Amfortas" at the Bayreuth Festival. He has made guest appearances, among other places, at the opera houses of Hamburg, Madrid, Strasbourg, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, Geneva, Aix-en-Provence, and at the Schwetzingen and Salzburg festivals. He has worked inter alios, with Lorin Maazel, Sir Simon Rattle, Daniele Gatti, Marek Janowski, Kurt Masur, Kent Nagano, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and Christian Thielemann. Detlef Roth is a successful interpreter of Bach’s Passions, Mendelssohn’s "Elijah" and "St Paul", and Brahms’ Requiem. His list of recordings includes such works as Mahler’s eighth symphony, with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, under Kent Nagano, Beethoven’s ninth with the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra under David Zinman, as well as "Carmina Burana" with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Mozart’s "Magic Flute" with the Opéra National de Paris.
