The young Albanian conductor and pianist Desar Sulejmani studied piano with Till Engel and conducting with David de Villiers at the Folkwang University of the Arts. There, he also met Andreas Reiner, with whom he studied chamber music. This developed into a close musical friendship that led to many concerts together – most recently, on a tour of Uzbekistan that included his performing as pianist at a violin recital and conducting the Uzbek National Orchestra, with Andreas Reiner as soloist.

Although he began by focusing on piano playing, he has now made a name as an excellent conductor. He started off as the conductor of youth and amateur orchestras in Neuwied and Düsseldorf. In addition to all the orchestras in his native Albania, he has also conducted the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, the Bergisch Symphony Orchestra and the New Westphalian Philharmonic.
Another of Desar Sulejmani's main focuses is working with singers. He is a sought-after singing coach for the operatic repertoire.

He has attended masterclasses with Steven Sloane and Sylvain Cambreling. Desar Sulejmani also attracted the attention of Sir Roger Norrington during the Ruhr region's period as European Capital of Culture in 2010.

From 2009-2012 he worked as a pianist and choral assistant in the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen. Since 2012 he has been artistic director of the Cologne Orchestra Society and the Essen Concert Choir.
