What have we actually been doing these past 30 years? Are we still in a situation with our work, the presentation of new music in the concert hall, that is similar to that of more than 100 years ago, when newly-written compositions could be experienced only live and Anton Webern wrote after the premiere of Pierrot Lunaire in Berlin: "But at the end there was not the slightest bit of protest. Schoenberg and the performers had to come back time and time again, particularly Schoenberg, of course; people repeatedly called out for him in the hall. It was an unqualified success."
No, this is not the way things are any more – but we want to experience that again!!! To use an idea from the visual arts: in our mediating role as interpreters, we see ourselves as kinds of gallerists of the musical avant-garde – with the ambition of creating an advantageous situation for creators and recipients.

Together with the internationally successful conductor Vladimir Jurowski as Artistic Advisor, unitedberlin has been invited to be the Ensemble in Residence at the Konzerthaus Berlin as of the 2015/16 season. The ensemble and conductor have thus come full circle with one another, having started off more than 25 years ago with joint concerts and CD productions.
